Our opinion on the Biwbik Gante (250W)

An electric city bike with excellent value for money? This is the bet taken up by the BiwBik Gante. Regularly put forward as a perfect balance between design, performance and accessibility, this bike of Spanish origin has enjoyed growing success since last year.

⚠️ As the Biwbik Gante is not sold in the US, we suggest the Kornorge Basic electric bike instead, perfect for occasional use (but not only) and affordable.

A mix of vintage and sobriety, at the forefront of comfort and easy to assemble, it will reconcile you with the steepest climbs thanks to its 250W pedal assistance motor, transforming your walks into real cruises.

In short, a quality bike with neat finishes, pleasant to ride and eligible for the ecological bonus, hard to find better for this price.

Why choose the Biwbik Gante?

I really like the Biwbik Gante in its black colour. Personally, I find that this color with the vintage effect of the brown leather makes the bike even classier. So that’s where I’m going to start my review.

What do you think of Biwbik Gante’s design

Design and accessories

Beyond performance, it is in my opinion very important that a bike can be attractive. And with this retro style wanted by the Spanish manufacturer, I think it’s won!

I like the accessories that come with it: a nice basket, mudguards and a luggage rack to match the color you choose (it also comes in white). Beware of the envious people he might make and be sure to protect this kind of bikes with a good lock ! Prevention is better than cure 🙂

Comfort of the Biwbik Gante

No problem collecting the miles on this electric bike. It has a wide and soft saddle, and a good balance which make it very pleasant to ride. With its Dutch shape, you stand up straight and for your back, it’s the best in town.

Please note that this is not an MTB. Its lack of suspension can be surprising on slightly high cobblestones or if you descend large curbs.

The Biwbik Gante is a very good electric bike for the city (#commuting) and country roads in good condition and not too bumpy. I also use it on weekends to ride along the canal banks near my house.

A comfortable soft saddle!

Battery and engine

When driving normally in town, the battery lasts between 25 and 50 miles. Why such a margin? Because it depends on the type of road taken, with climbs or not, the weight of the cyclist, and potentially the weather. We are in the middle, since a classic electric bike can generally transport you over 31 miles. This is more than enough for us to make our daily home-work trip or the weekend ride. 😉

The battery is placed behind the saddle, which makes it easy to install a child seat on the luggage rack without restricting access to the battery. In use, I find that it also has the advantage of balancing the bike well because the weight is located in the middle. Bonus: the battery is removable. So you don’t need to connect your bike to the charger, just remove your battery to charge it wherever you want.

The Biwbik Gante provides pedaling assistance up to 15.5 mph, so it complies with European legislation on pedelecs, and does not necessarily require insurance. Our article on electric bike insurance helps you understand everything. The 250W motor has 3 speed modes: eco, medium and fast, to adjust the assistance as you see fit depending on the traffic.

The monitor

The Biwbik’s engine can be adjusted via a monitor positioned on the handlebars. It is used to turn on the bike, to turn on the lights, but also to choose the speed mode. 4 diodes are also used to monitor the battery level. It’s not super precise so I advise you to always make sure to charge your bike when you only have 2 out of 4 diodes left.

Braking

Of course, you already know what the brakes are for, but a clarification is needed concerning the system available on this bike.

The front and rear brakes of the Biwbik Gante are V-BRAKE brakes, i.e. you have 2 calipers which rest their pads on the rim. This system is more powerful than most other more traditional types of braking, think about it when you take your bike in hand. Of course these brakes are very easily adjustable if you don’t feel comfortable when stopping.

Conclusion

I must admit that before testing it, my opinion on the Biwbik Gante was quite mixed. One would expect a “cheap” bike, of average quality at the time of purchase. Its price, well below €1000 (around $1100) suggests that there is something wrong…and yet we are very satisfied with it.

This electric bike does not seek to offer sophisticated details that are often unnecessary, but combines efficiency and design. A safe bet for electric bikes.
