An Electric Hybrid Bike that Performs Well

This new Spanish electric hybrid bike lives up to its promise of versatility, performing equally well on both paved city streets and less developed paths. While comfort may not be perfect and the components (of unspecified origin) are basic, they combine to provide a pleasant riding experience on moderately rough terrain. The bike is responsive and the components perform adequately for typical usage.

The Sunray features a low frame design, popular among women riders. It’s available in white and black, offering two understated colors that add a touch of elegance.

The Biwbik Sunray is an electric hybrid bike equipped with front and rear mudguards and a chain guard to protect against chain damage. Its luggage rack makes transporting belongings easy, and the 6-speed Shimano derailleur ensures efficient pedaling and speed.

Limited Information on the Motor and Battery

The Biwbik Sunray features a 10 Ah, 36 V lithium battery with a claimed range of 50 miles, realistically achieving about 40 miles. Recharging takes approximately 5 hours. The battery is bulky and positioned between the seat and the rear mudguard, with the convenience of being removable for charging.

The Biwbik Sunray’s motor is rated at 250W, and that’s essentially all the information available about it. In practical use, it’s not a high-performance motor, but that’s not Biwbik’s aim either, as this bike is designed as a cruiser suitable for short daily trips. It provides 3 levels of pedal assistance: eco, medium, and fast.

Eco mode conserves battery by reducing electric assistance.

Fast mode increases speed but depletes the battery faster, allowing speeds up to 20 mph.

Medium mode strikes a balance between the previous modes. It was my preferred mode during testing the Sunray.

The electric assistance is progressive with a slight delay. Initially, it felt unfamiliar, but it’s a feature worth appreciating.

Comfort and Maneuverability

Brakes are crucial on any bicycle, especially on an electric bike due to higher speeds. Biwbik prioritizes safety by outfitting the Sunray with hydraulic disc brakes.

The suspension is notably comfortable. I experienced no discomfort on roads or cobblestones; it performs admirably.

The bike weighs just over 55 lbs, making it relatively heavy for an electric bike. Today’s models are lighter but usually come at a premium. Unless you’ve built up your strength, this bike may not be ideal for apartment dwellers without an elevator. Additionally, the electric assistance makes the weight less noticeable during rides.

Mounting the low-frame bike is effortless, even in dresses. Keep in mind the weight limit of 253 lbs and height range from 5’1” to 6’1” for optimal comfort and performance. This model caters to shorter individuals, though bikes for heights under 4’11” are available elsewhere.

Classic-Style Display

The retro-style display is situated on the left handlebar, controlling both front and rear lights. It enables mode selection and battery level checking. While it’s quite basic, this compromise is understandable given the bike’s affordability.
