Today I’ll give you my opinion on the Urbanbiker Mini: a folding and compact bike, with good autonomy and features that have caused a lot of talk in the world of cycling! What is this Spanish bike worth?

My opinion on the Urbanbiker Mini

We no longer present you the Spanish brand Urbanbiker, behind the bikes Urbanbiker Vienna (hybrid) and Urbanbiker Dakota (MTB) that we have already had the opportunity to test and talk about. As for the other models, we are here on a “mid-range” quality for a very attractive price. We find the quality of manufacture and the comfort that we liked on the other bikes: an assembly of beautiful recognized parts and brands. In short, Urbanbiker is giving: Samsung battery, Microshift derailleur and Schwalbe tires!
Why choose the Urbanbiker Mini?
Design and comfort
The electric bike Urbanbiker Mini has a very clean design. Its 20-inch wheels give it a modern style and its black color is suitable for both genders! (Note that it is also available in white, if you prefer.) The Urbanbiker brand logo is present on the wide frame of the bike which adds a touch of elegance.
On a bike, the quality of the saddle is very important to me and to most people. This one is quite wide and very comfortable. Urbanbiker has installed a “royal” type saddle. You can easily spend several hours on the Urbanbiker Mini bike ! The mudguards present at the front as well as at the rear of the bike prevent you from receiving any type of projectile coming from the wheels. They also prevent you from getting wet when riding in the rain. This is a really pleasant element.
The Urbanbiker Mini is a designed city electric bike. We can find all the perfect needed for riding on concrete roads with maximum comfort, while keeping a light bike. Even though, the absence of suspension is regretful, it is a compromise that Urbanbiker has decided to make to allow the Mini to be as light as possible (46 lbs).
Monitor, assist mode and lights
The Urbanbiker Mini bike is equipped with an LCD screen which offers you the possibility of choosing one of the 5 levels of electric assistance. The mode that I advise you to use more often is, in my opinion, the number 3 : it limits the speed to 9-11 mph and preserves the battery really well. Of course, if you are in a hurry, the fifth mode will make you go up to 15.5 mph, which is the maximum speed authorized.
The monitor allows you to see the distance traveled as well as the speed at which you are driving but also the remaining autonomy. It is simple but it contains all the information you need to have an optimal driving experience.
There are two lights available on the bike, one at the front which allows you to illuminate for quite a long distance, and a red light at the back of the saddle which is present so that other users can spot you. Be aware that these lights are mandatory in some countries such as France, Switzerland and Belgium. To turn them on, simply press the button located on the left of the handlebar. Nothing easier ! A buzzer can also be triggered using a button just below the lights button.
Everything is there to ensure optimal safety! Another big advantage of the bike is its hydraulic disc brakes. It is the best type of brakes at the moment and the most powerful ones. We can find this kind of brakes on higher-end bikes, so it’s a great effort made by Urbanbiker to have succeeded in integrating these kind of brakes into the bike while maintaining an affordable selling price.
Easy to carry
As we said earlier, the Spanish brand has done everything to make its Urbanbiker Mini bike easily transportable, quick to fold and very easy to store. It weighs 21 kg (46 lbs) so if you live in an apartment or you have to carry your bike by hand, there will be no problem for that. 21 kg (46 lbs) is actually in the low average folding electric bikes! Its compact shape when folded and its weight make it very easy to transport.
The Urbanbiker Mini have very good quality 20-inch wheels. The tires are also from Schwalbe, a big plus because the brand is recognized for its longevity and comfort.
The battery
The bicycle battery is a 36V and 14Ah (504Wh) lithium-ion. It is located in the frame and can be taken out when recharging. However, it remains firmly attached to the bike when riding. It is therefore (mostly) safe from water and possible collisions or projectiles. If you read our article about electric bike vs water, you know that e-bikes and water aren’t the best of friends !
The Urbanbiker Mini offers a range of 55 miles which is a very good thing for an urban bike. It takes about 4 hours to fully charge it.
The engine
Equipped with a 250W motor, the Urbanbiker Mini allows you to reach a speed of 15.5 mph. Perfect for driving on the road, in town while respecting the legislation. As we said earlier you can limit the motor speed thanks to the monitor and therefore meet your needs, especially if you are a beginner. The 5 speed levels will help you master driving an electric bike without problems.
Conclusion
Available at a very advantageous price, this folding bike has everything to shade the competition. Its price is very competitive given that you can find bikes of the same kind approaching €1645 (more than $1800.)
