Urbanbiker is a Spanish brand known for models like the Urbanbiker Vienna (hybrid bike) and Urbanbiker Dakota (MTB), both of which we’ve previously tested and discussed on BEST EBIKE. The Urbanbiker Mini maintains the brand’s tradition of mid-range quality at an attractive price point. We once again enjoyed the high-quality workmanship and comfort on the hybrid and mountain bike models: a selection of well-crafted, reputable components and brand names. In short, Urbanbiker prioritizes quality components over appearance: utilizing Samsung batteries, Microshift derailleurs, and Schwalbe tires.
Why Choose the Urbanbiker Mini?
Design and Comfort
The Urbanbiker Mini electric bike boasts a sleek design with 20-inch wheels, giving it a modern aesthetic. Available in black (and white), its design appeals to both genders! The Urbanbiker brand logo adds a touch of elegance to the wide frame!
The saddle is generously wide and exceptionally comfortable. I extensively test bike saddles because their quality is crucial to both me and many others. Urbanbiker has equipped this bike with a deluxe “royal” type saddle. Considering you may spend several hours a week on your Urbanbiker Mini, comfort is essential. Front and rear mudguards shield you from debris flung by the wheels, enhancing safety during your ride. Additionally, they keep you dry when cycling in the rain.
The Urbanbiker Mini is designed for city commuting, offering everything needed for comfortable rides on concrete roads while maintaining a lightweight build. Although the lack of suspension is regrettable, it’s a compromise made by Urbanbiker to keep the Mini as light as possible (46 lbs).
Monitor, Assist Mode, and Lights
The Urbanbiker Mini features an LCD screen that allows you to select from 5 levels of electric assistance. Mode 3 is recommended for preserving battery life, limiting speed to 9-11 mph. For faster rides, mode 5 can reach speeds up to 15.5 mph, the maximum authorized speed.
The monitor displays distance traveled, current speed, and remaining battery range, providing all essential information for an optimal riding experience.
The bike features two lights: one at the front for long-distance illumination, and a red light at the rear of the saddle for visibility to other users. These lights are mandatory in some countries like France, Switzerland, and Belgium. To activate them, simply press the button on the left handlebar. It couldn’t be simpler! Additionally, a buzzer can be activated using a button below the lights button.
All the features you need for maximum safety! Another major advantage of this bike is its braking system: the Urbanbiker Mini is equipped with hydraulic disc brakes. These brakes are among the best and most powerful available today. Typically found on higher-end bikes, it’s impressive that Urbanbiker has managed to integrate these brakes into the Mini at such an affordable price point.
Easy to Transport
As mentioned earlier, the Spanish brand has made significant efforts to ensure that the Urbanbiker Mini bike is easy to transport, quick to fold, and extremely simple to store. Weighing in at 46 lbs, the Urbanbiker Mini is manageable for those living in apartments or needing to carry their bike by hand (46 lbs falls within the lighter range for folding electric bikes). Its compact folded shape and lightweight design facilitate easy transportation.
The Urbanbiker Mini features high-quality 20-inch wheels fitted with Schwalbe tires (a significant advantage, given the brand’s reputation for durability and comfort!).
Battery
The bike is equipped with a 36V, 14Ah (504Wh) lithium-ion battery, housed within the frame for easy removal during recharging. While firmly attached during rides, it’s largely protected from water and potential collisions or projectiles. As mentioned in our article about e-bikes and water, it’s wise to keep the battery shielded from water exposure.
The Urbanbiker Mini boasts an impressive range of 55 miles, making it ideal for urban commuting. Charging takes approximately 4 hours to reach full capacity.
Motor
The Urbanbiker Mini features a 250W motor, enabling speeds of up to 15.5 mph, ideal for urban commuting while adhering to regulations. As mentioned earlier, motor speed can be limited using the monitor, catering to various skill levels, particularly for beginners. The 5 speed levels facilitate mastering electric bike riding with ease.
Conclusion
Priced very competitively, this folding bike outshines the competition with its range of features. Considering similar bikes can cost upwards of $1800, the Urbanbiker Mini offers exceptional value for money. The manufacturer provides a two-year warranty.
If you’re in search of a compact, portable e-bike to seamlessly tackle your daily tasks, I highly recommend the Urbanbiker Mini folding bike.
